October 2nd @1:00 - Salvation Army Presentation by Bob Fulton
Sit in on this special presentation to learn all about the Salvation Army! Bob Fulton will teach you about
the organization’s annual bell ringing campaign and more importantly, how you can become involved!
Additionally, Bob will talk about the services that the Salvation Army provides to senior citizens,
including everything from help paying bills to disaster relief.
 
October 11 @11:00 - Relaxation Techniques by Bob Zemburski
This month, Bob Zemburski will be teaching you how to relax! He will share some various techniques
to help you achieve a calm, cool, and relaxed state of mind. This presentation will also help
participants reaffirm that they are each a walking miracle and a wonderful gift to all of the people in
their lives. Want to raise your self-esteem? Come to this class!
 
October 17th @10:00 - Happy Feet Presentation by VNA
Does foot pain interfere with your day-to-day life? Or, do you just have a few questions about
foot health? Betsy Cuellar from the VNA will be here to teach you how to care for your feet!
Everything from pain relieving measures to preventative practices will be discussed.
 
October 18th @11:00 - Flu Prevention Presentation by Alicia Snedecor of St. Mary's
Flu season is fast approaching! Since you don’t want to miss ANY fun at the MRC, you need to keep
yourself healthy this winter! In addition to getting an annual flu shot (which you can do right here at
the Center!), you can effectively fight off the flu by establishing a few healthy habits. Learn some
preventative strategies with Alicia Snedecor of St. Mary’s.
 
October 23rd @1:00 - Election Primer by Dr. John Ban of IUN

Obama & Biden or Romney & Ryan? The election is right around the corner and now is the time to
make your choice! The MRC will be sponsoring a workshop on the upcoming general election which
will be led by Dr. John R. Ban, Professor Emeritus from IUN. He will explain and lead a discussion on
some key points including the electoral process, political parties, lobbies, campaign spending, dysfunctional
Washington, Social Security & entitlements, and much, much more.

 
October 25th @11:00 - The Roaring Twenties by Dr. Jim Lane of IUN
Dr. Jim Lane has returned! This time, he will be talking about the Calumet Region’s diverse
communities during the Roaring Twenties, as illustrated by Gary (industrial city),
Cedar Lake (tourist resort), Portage (farm community), and Hobart (small town). You won’t want to miss this!
